An international team has set a new record at the world’s largest nuclear fusion reactor, JET, in Culham near Oxford, UK: they generated a stable plasma for more than five seconds and achieved a yield of 59 megajoules of fusion energy. The results of the experiment, which took place at the end of 2021, were presented on Wednesday by representatives of the European fusion program Eurofusion, the British Atomic Energy Agency UKAEA and the international fusion project Iter.
