A Sherpa woman has broken her own record as the most successful Mount Everest conqueror: together with other mountaineers, she has scaled the summit of the highest mountain on earth for the tenth time.

The 48-year-old Lhakpa Sherpa reached the summit of the highest mountain on earth for the tenth time this morning. This was announced by her brother and expedition organizer Mingma Gelu.

She broke her own record. Because no other woman climbed the summit at 8,849 meters as often as the Sherpani.

Gelu said his sister is in good health and is now descending safely from the summit. The weather conditions are good.

Mountaineering as a source of income

The 48-year-old had no opportunity for formal education in her life because she had to earn her own money at an early age. She did this by carrying climbing gear and supplies for other climbers.

The native Nepalese now lives in West Hartfort in the US state of Connecticut. She has three children.

Record for men is 26

Another Nepalese Sherpa guide, Kami Rita, has also climbed the summit several times – only on Saturday for the 26th time. Rita broke his own record for most ascents of Mount Everest.

Rita led a group of Sherpa climbers who repaired ropes along the route to allow others to climb safely. Hundreds of foreign climbers and as many Sherpa guides aim to climb Everest in May. Then the weather conditions are most favorable for an ascent.
