Record-breaking new debt – Bavaria

During the Corona crisis, the state government in Bavaria was in the top group of federal states with the highest level of new debt. Last year, the state’s debt increased by two billion from 17.8 to 19.8 billion euros. This was announced by the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden on Wednesday. In absolute figures, this was only surpassed by Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia, which, according to the Federal Office, each took on well over two billion euros in new debt. Bavaria’s neighboring state of Baden-Württemberg, which is governed by the green and black government, even paid off almost a billion euros in debt. In relation to the previous level of debt, the state government was in second place behind Saxony with an increase in new debt of over eleven percent.
