Watch the video: Classics of oriental cuisine: creamy hummus made from just a few ingredients.

Chickpeas are real all-rounders: They can be enjoyed in many different ways and are also very healthy.

Since chickpeas contain many nutrients, regular consumption can also reduce the risk of diabetes, obesity or cancer.

The legume can be prepared in a variety of ways. Hummus in particular is a popular recipe.

This comes from oriental cuisine and can now also be found here as a dip or spread.

Hummus is available in many different variations: refined with cauliflower, paprika or avocado or sweet. But especially the classic is popular with everyone.

You can easily make the dip yourself at home with just a few ingredients. For this you need:

1 can of chickpeas
1-2 cloves of garlic
juice from one lemon
120g tahini
100 ml cold water
Salt and cumin for seasoning
As well as 1-2 tbsp olive oil, fresh herbs and a few chickpeas to garnish

The secret to creamy hummus is tahini, a sesame paste from Arabic cuisine. The type of preparation also plays a crucial role.

First drain the chickpeas in a colander and set aside some of the water.

Squeeze the lemon and place in a blender with the garlic and salt.

Then you can also add the sesame paste and gradually pour in the chickpea water and the cold water.

Finally, add the chickpeas and cumin to the blender and optionally a dash of olive oil. Mix everything well until you get a smooth, creamy mass.

If the consistency is not right, you can add more cold water and season the dip with lemon juice and salt.

To serve, place the hummus in a shallow bowl, make a small well in the center and decorate with olive oil, herbs, and the remaining chickpeas.

Flatbread or vegetable sticks go well with the delicious dip. Bon appetit!
