Exactly five years ago, the then 15-year-old Rebecca Reusch disappeared from Berlin. Now a video has emerged that shows her brother-in-law leaving the house that same morning and returning shortly afterwards. He is still considered a suspect in the case.

Since February 18, 2019 Rebecca Reusch disappeared. The then 15-year-old student was most recently visiting her sister and brother-in-law’s house in Britz, a district in Berlin’s Neukölln district. She slept there on the sofa. It is the last known sign of life from her. While her sister left the house around 7 a.m., her brother-in-law stayed alone in the house with her. He is considered suspicious. He was arrested and released twice by the police. However, he denies having anything to do with her disappearance.

A few weeks ago a video from a surveillance camera emerged. According to a report in the “Bild” newspaper, the brother-in-law’s car can be seen driving down the street near Rebecca’s sister’s house at 7:24 a.m. and returning after 46 minutes. On Sunday, the Berlin public prosecutor’s office reacted to the recordings: “We know the video, we have evaluated it and there are no new findings from it,” said a spokesman for the DPA news agency. The video was given to the investigators in the fall by the “Bild” newspaper been transmitted. Overall, there is no new status in the case.

Rebecca’s disappearance continues to puzzle investigators to this day. The brother-in-law had explained that the young woman had left the house in the morning, but the homicide squad was unable to determine this based on the cell phone data.

Rebecca Reusch: Brother-in-law is still suspected

Shortly after the student’s disappearance, a witness also saw a wine-red Twingo, similar to that of her brother-in-law, in a forest near Kummersdorf. The police then launched a large-scale search operation. For weeks, hundreds of police officers and divers combed the forests and lakes in sparsely populated Brandenburg, 50 kilometers southeast of Berlin. Through the search, another witness remembered an incident while riding with her friends. They also saw a conspicuous man in the forest who was constantly looking around in all directions. When he noticed the riders, he walked faster, changed his direction and only looked down.

The fact is: The family’s car was hit on the motorway between Berlin and Frankfurt/Oder on February 18th at 10:47 a.m. and February 19th at 10:39 p.m. The brother-in-law was the only one who had access to the car at this time, but cannot plausibly explain why he was there. But even if the criminal police still believe that the brother-in-law is the murderer, there is no evidence of this. The then 27-year-old man was at a party and didn’t return until early in the morning. Rebecca’s sister went to work early. When the mother called to wake Rebecca up to go to school, no one answered the phone. The mother called the brother-in-law, but the call was dismissed. Shortly afterwards he called back and said Rebecca was already gone. She didn’t arrive at school or return home.

By February 2023, the police had received more than 3,000 tips about the Rebecca case. At that time, a spokesman explained that they were still receiving numerous tips from citizens. “Some of them also search for Rebecca on their own and give clues about clues, such as finding blankets in the forest.”

See the video from April 2023 above: He is the only suspect in the case of the missing Rebecca. Investigators have now searched Florian R.’s house again. A missing bathrobe belt is said to have played an important role.
