“Reassuring” analyzes one month after the fungicide pollution

On April 21, the trailer of a tractor carrying 1,700 liters of fungicide intended for wheat crops overturned on the road, in the town of Gétigné (Loire-Atlantique), near Clisson, south of Nantes. The accident caused the fungicide to spill, via the rainwater network, directly into the nearby Ligneau. Raising fears of the worst for this river and the Nantes Sèvre into which it flows.

“This pollution led to the mortality of all the fish present on the 400 m of watercourse between the point of discharge and the confluence with the Nantes Sèvre, indicated this Thursday, a month later, the services of the State. On the other hand, “no fish mortality was observed on the Nantes Sèvre. Indeed, the flow of the Sèvre came to dilute the polluting concentrations. »

Restrictions partially lifted

I’French Office for Biodiversity carried out analyzes of water, sediment and fish flesh. “The results are reassuring since the water from the Nantes Sèvre and Ligneau does not show any signs of ecotoxicity linked to accidental pollution, for aquatic organisms, fauna and flora. Same observation for the sediments, the polluting discharge did not accumulate in the sediments of the Ligneau and the Sèvre nantaise”, reports the prefecture of Loire-Atlantique.

Fishing restrictions on the Nantes Sèvre have been lifted. The ban on fishing on part of the LIgneau has been maintained, as well as a ban on access to the banks.
