Real wages in Bavaria fall sharply – Bavaria

Inflation caused real wages in Bavaria to shrink by 3.4 percent last year. This is the strongest decline since the time series began in 2008, as reported by the State Statistics Office on Wednesday. According to this, only about half of the inflation could be offset by rising wages.

Including special payments, Bavarian employees received a nominal 3.4 percent more money last year – but inflation was significantly higher at 7.1 percent last year. The last time there was a real wage loss in Bavaria was in 2020 due to the corona pandemic – at that time by 1.9 percent.

In all other years since 2013, however, the development has been positive – with real wage increases of between 0.2 and 2.5 percent.
