Real or fake? Big Pride rainbow at the “Arc de Triomphe” in Paris

Watch the video: Huge Pride rainbow at the “Arc de Triomphe” in Paris – is the art installation real or a fake?

This stunning video is causing a stir on social media.

A rainbow meanders through the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

The clip has been viewed more than 2.9 million times on Twitter alone.

Numerous users spread and commented on the video.

But is the breathtaking art installation really real?

The art installation is not real. The Arc de Triomphe in Paris is not surrounded by a rainbow. The video is the work of California video artist Ian Padgham.

In the comments below his video, Padgham explains that the video is not an AI-generated clip, but a “3D animation and lots of hand-made details”.

The American made it clear to the Reuters news agency:

“I’m an artist and this is a 3D animation I made to wish my friends in the LGBTQIA+ community a happy Pride Month (…) It’s just art I made to celebrate love and equality. – Ian Padgham

The case makes it clear how deceptively real 3D animations can appear. This is how the work of a 3D artist becomes a supposedly real art installation on one of the most famous sights in Paris.

How do we check videos for manipulation in the editorial office? It is important to look at the details. The individual frames of a video often reveal whether a video has been edited. We take a close look at each image and enlarge individual sections. Indications of a fake are, for example: lack of motion blur, unnatural shadows or editing errors. The general rule at stern is: Seriousness before speed. We always double-check facts and material thoroughly before publishing them. For this we work with the cross-editorial “Team Verification” together with RTL, NTV, RTL2, Radio NRW.
