Reading: Thomas Mann and the Sea – Munich

In his latest novel, the author and literary critic Volker Weidermann devotes himself to the extraordinary love in the life of Thomas Mann: the sea. For the Nobel Prize winner and “Buddenbrooks” author, the sea was a place of longing during his lifetime. Here he is said to have found inspiration for his literary work and lived out his love for men. Starting with his childhood on the Baltic Sea coast, his proximity to water marked many stages of his life.

In “Man from the Sea” Weidermann links the writer’s biography with the element that for him is the “silent hero of all his books”. He explores this special passion Time-feuilleton head at the Literaturhaus together with Kerstin Holzer, who, as the author of the biography “Monascella”, has also dealt intensively with Mann’s family.

Volker Weidermann: “Man from the Sea”, reading, Thursday, January 11th, 7 p.m., Literaturhaus, Salvatorplatz 1, Munich, tickets below literaturhaus-münchen.de
