RC Lens takes the scalp of Brest in pain

For several seasons, Ligue 1 has offered us surprises at the top of the table. Last season, after several interesting editions in the elite, RC Lens was impressive and finished second. An inspiring journey to the Champions League that Stade Brestois aspires to follow this year. Sensational, the Bretons are the runners-up to PSG and were on a series of three consecutive successes in the elite before their trip to Lens this Saturday evening. You will have understood, this meeting between Sang et Or and Ty-Zefs had the appearance of a settling of scores between two former little ones who had become big names for several months, even years.

Giving a lesson in realism to Lyon last week (0-3), Lens aspired to win again this Saturday to move into fourth place in the standings. Between Franck Haise and Eric Roy, the technical battle promised and was held on the field in the first period. From the start of the match to the half-hour mark, the spectacle was not the most entertaining at Bollaert and the two teams did not take many risks offensively. Despite a first strike from Del Castillo (26th), the Artésiens were more incisive and RC Lens opened the scoring. While Marco Bizot disgusted El Aynaoui a few moments earlier (29th), David Pereira Da Costa saw his cross hit the post before Ruben Aguilar, opportunistic, scored with a header into the empty goal (1-0, 32nd).

RC Lens held on despite the Brest assaults

Poorly paid in the first half, the visitors returned with better intentions from the locker room. However, Brest has not yet shown itself dangerous despite more pronounced control of the ball. The entry into play of the very restless Satriano in place of Steve Mounié clearly changed the situation. However, the show of the Lensoise defense and Brice Samba began at that moment. Already, the prowess of the French international (1 selection) to release Hugo Magnetti’s powerful volley is to be highlighted (61st). Prostrate in their own half, the Lensois then spent the last twenty minutes coping with the Breton waves.

Martin Satriano subsequently saw his head hit Brice Samba’s post (79th). Insistant, the Argentinian striker again distinguished himself with his head but his new attempt was stopped on his line by Brice Samba (84th). Solidarity in the pain, the locals held on and went to snatch this victory which does a lot of good. At the end of an exceptional fight, RC Lens did the right thing by climbing to fourth place and coming back to the level of third, Monaco. This setback for the Brestois is of no great consequence, but is frustrating given their performance after a series of thirteen matches without defeat in the league. Eric Roy’s flock remain second, but their lead is only four points over their evening opponents.
