His fans had to wait a long time: because of the corona pandemic, The Weeknd’s tour was postponed twice. Now the Canadian can finally be seen on a German stage – and delivers.

Superstar has around 50,000 fans The Weeknd (33) played the first of his four German concerts in Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion on Sunday evening. In just under two hours, the Toronto-born R&B singer delivered over 30 songs, including his world hit “Blinding Lights”. In addition to the vocal presence of the world star, the impressive stage set made up of burning city landmarks, a futuristic robot and a gigantic full moon, which adorned the end of a catwalk from the stage to the middle of the stadium, was particularly impressive.

The fans’ long-awaited concert by The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, was delayed by three years. The tour originally planned for 2020 had to be postponed twice due to the corona pandemic. For the fans, however, this delay turned out to be a blessing: due to high demand, the artist had already announced in 2021 that the “After Hours” tour would be renamed “After Hours til Dawn” and played in much larger stadiums instead of smaller arenas should.

The tour now combines the last two studio albums “After Hours” and “Dawn FM”, which was released in early 2022, with which the 33-year-old conquered the charts worldwide. The show in Hamburg will be followed by stops in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich. The tour is likely to be the Canadian’s last under his stage name “The Weeknd”: In May, Tesfaye announced that he would like to perform under his real name in the future.
