Companies want to use the greenhouse gas: for example to produce fuels, plastics and even food. But is it also worth it?

Necessity is the mother of invention. For the steel manufacturer Thyssenkrupp, the need turns out to be an excess – of CO₂: the blast furnaces in Duisburg blow 20 million tons into the air every year. It will be more than two decades before steel production is converted to climate-neutral. So why not recycle the CO₂ to make something completely new out of it?
