Saturday evening was dedicated to the Eurovision Song Contest. But “A strong team” also had a strong rating.

The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) attracted a lot of interest from the German TV audience on Saturday evening. From 9 p.m. on ARD, an average of 6.54 million viewers watched the final from Turin with the victory of the Kalush Orchestra from the Ukraine. The audience rating was 32.7 percent.

In addition, there were 0.76 million (3.8 percent) on the ARD special-interest channel One, where the transmission was provided with tweets from users. The total number added up to 7.3 million.

3.46 million (15.3 percent) had previously followed the “countdown for Turin” from 8:15 p.m. on ARD. The ESC only had serious competition from ZDF, where the thriller “A strong team: The last trip” fetched 6.66 million (27.6 percent) from 8:15 p.m.

The number of viewers on ARD corresponded exactly to the value from the previous year, when 6.54 million also saw the ESC final from Rotterdam. The rate was lower then (26.7 percent), while the number of additional viewers on ARD channel One was higher (1.2 million).

In previous years, viewer participation in the ESC final was sometimes significantly higher: 7.56 million (33.8 percent) watched in 2019, 7.87 million (33.4 percent) in 2018 and even 9.38 in 2016 million (36.7 percent). When Lena won for Germany with “Satellite” in 2010, there were even 14.73 million (49.0 percent) in front of the screens.

The other broadcasters had to be content with extra roles on Saturday evening. The RTL show “The most fascinating animal stories in the world” came to 1.25 million (5.5 percent), the fantasy adventure “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (1)” on Sat.1 to 0.85 million ( 3.6 percent) and the crime series “9-1-1 Notruf LA” on Kabel Eins to 0.48 million (2.1 percent). Vox brought it to 0.43 million (1.8 percent) with the boxing drama “Creed 2: Rocky’s Legacy” and RTLzwei with the comedy “The Boss – Dick in Business” to 0.34 million (1.4 percent). 0.31 million (2.0 percent) were interested in the full-length knowledge magazine “Galileo 360 Grad Ranking XXL” on ProSieben.
