Rammstein will not appear in Munich on New Year’s Eve as planned, nor will there be a show in Essen. The satirical party “Die Party” in Hattingen sees this as an opportunity for the small town in the Ruhr area.

Rammstein are still on a big tour with the new album “Zeit”, the band is currently playing concerts in the USA. But in the past few days, future performances have been spoken of more often than current performances: There was great confusion about a planned mega concert by the musicians around singer Till Lindemann in Munich.

On New Year’s Eve, Rammstein was to perform in front of 145,000 spectators at Munich’s Theresienwiese. However, the plan fell through after a few discussions, and a possible show in Essen at the turn of the year also disappeared into thin air. Then “The Party” from Hattingen sensed their chance. The satire party wants to lure the world-famous band to the city in the Ruhr area with 54,000 inhabitants.

Rammstein should “make private fireworks unnecessary”

The parliamentary group of the “party” has submitted a corresponding application to the committee for economic development, city marketing and tourism. “After the flimsy cancellations for such a concert in Munich and Essen, Hattingen now offers a unique opportunity, because the band currently has no location for the planned New Year’s Eve concert. Now it’s important to be quick and seize the opportunity,” the “party” quotes it on its website.

Such a show would “lure a few tourists to Hattingen,” the application says. It is also proposed to combine the concert “with a small New Year’s Eve show”: “Rammstein should like to play with fire anyway and thus perhaps make private fireworks unnecessary.” In the 2020 council election in Hattingen, “The Party” won 5.5 percent and has had three members on the city council since then.

Confusion about the concert in Munich

It is unlikely that the group’s commitment will actually lead to Rammstein coming to tranquil Hattingen – apart from the fact that the demand may not be meant too seriously. How difficult it can be to organize such a mega concert has already been shown in Munich and Essen.

In the Bavarian state capital, the city council had actually already approved the concert, but after discussions about, among other things, the noise pollution of the residents, the high demands on the police and rescue services and the safety of the visitors, the organizer, the Leutgeb Entertainment Group, surprisingly canceled the project. Rammstein then made it clear that there was “neither a final commitment from the band nor an event contract”.

After that there was talk of holding the concert in Essen. But here, too, the organizer and the city did not come to an agreement. The preparation time for such an event on New Year’s Eve is “very, very short,” said a city spokeswoman for “WAZ”.
