Plants love rainwater. In order to save water and do something good for the plants, it is worth collecting the rain. The easiest and cheapest way is to purchase a rain barrel. This is usually used to collect rainwater from the gutter. But there are three important things to keep in mind: Don’t forget to put the lid on. That sounds banal, but there are several reasons. Firstly, the rain barrel does not become a mosquito paradise. A lid also prevents the water from evaporating and dirt or animals from falling into it. Make sure that you install an overflow that is exactly the same size as the inlet. If the bin is full after heavy rain, it should of course not overflow uncontrollably. This can quickly lead to damp walls. Only a small amount of water can be collected in small barrels. In times of long drought, rainwater runs out so quickly. It is better to set up larger bins or even several bins, the next dry period will definitely come!
