Radio station and an internet magazine for women-media


It’s one of those things about diversity. Wasn’t the idea more that groups – preferably the privileged groups – should become diverse, rather than the creation of diverse groups? But women are half of humanity, so they are not a marginal group, but definitely a market segment. There are at least two start-ups on the radio, two stations only for women. “Girls! Finally among us” is written large above the website of Anna.fm, at Femotion Radio jumps one on the website Femotion.de first of all a kiss on the lips.

Both stations can be heard as streaming or via DAB + and offer a program that they themselves claim that all women have been waiting for. “Finally the music that you like. Finally the topics that you want to talk about every day. We are with you and accompany you through the day,” it says next to the pink logo on the website of Anna.fm. What exactly can be heard there? Radio on.

Maybe Michael Bublé appears a little more often than usual, but otherwise the usual private broadcaster music runs up and down on the programs of the women’s channels Anna.fm and Femotion Radio. Would Cher and Adele be thrilled to know that they are now responsible for specifically female ears?

Femotion Radio brings sayings like: “Every morning I make a new decision for myself.”

The news on Femotion Radio is short, train strike, Corona, and then – finally a report is announced about a woman who made it into an elite unit of the Navy. More music. And then a woman’s voice says that there is now the first female combat boat seaman in the USA who had to learn crazy things, that’s what it says in the New York Times. While the music is playing again, it’s time to see where the story was – under the usual domestic news, because the New York Times has no women’s corner at all (although the section “Love”, in which the story about the elite soldier really would not have fitted, has a suspicious amount of pink when you look at it online). At Femotion Radio you can first hear sayings: “Every morning I make a new decision.” Then music again. And the announcement that at some point there will be another post, namely: How do you prepare refreshing lemon water. In addition, one is informed that this is a station for all women, including those “who are not feminist on the way”. Cheers.

The associated website is also more pink, and at the top there is a lot about the fact that Femotion Radio is about equality and career opportunities as a woman, but underneath it is exactly the same categories that women’s magazines have always plowed: Health, Family, diet. It means “Fem Health”, “Fem Family” and “Fem Food”. But doesn’t change anything. In “Kinder Küche Kirche” the third K has been replaced by Career. It’s similar with Anna.fm.

“Palais Fluxx”: experts give financial tips – women work with scarce resources

A few months ago, the journalist Silke Burmester started an online magazine, Palais Fluxx (palais-fluxx.de), for women from 47 – and that is also very target group-oriented, but the articles and the podcast of the magazine (in the last episode the media scientist Elizabeth Prommer was a guest) are of a different caliber. Much consists of contributions from readers. But Burmester tries to mix hard topics with the articles about the corona blues, very personal columns and book reviews. At Palais Fluxx there is a “bank counter” where you can get financial tips from three experts – the fact that women work with scarce resources is a real, measurable, tough gender-specific problem. Silke Burmester knows her way around there, she started the magazine (together with “Tech Crack” Simone Glöckler), with almost no money, can be found on the website. So one can say: in self-exploitation.

But is that even necessary, a separate women’s radio program? Does all of this have to be in its own corner, sometimes as pink as possible?

The equality is perhaps better served if a combat boat seaman is reported in contexts in which a man also hears something about it, after all, the military protects everyone. If “staying among yourself” is actually a goal, the men in the management of both radio stations have at least managed to achieve that. In the imprint on the Anna.fm and Femotion Radio websites, a total of five men are shown as the respective managing directors and no women. Now we only need two special channels for women who prefer to listen to AC / DC and men who like Adele and still watch football.
