Now his time in jail will probably be EVEN longer!
Ex-pop star R. Kelly (55) has been convicted again of sex crimes.
A jury in Chicago on Wednesday found the former musician (“I Believe I Can Fly”) guilty of having sex with a minor and producing child pornography. This was reported by several US media on Wednesday evening.
Just a few weeks ago, Kelly was sentenced in New York to 30 years in prison for the abuse of minors.
In a second trial in Chicago, he was charged with 13 counts, including several counts of producing child pornography and inducing minors to engage in sexual activity.
Prosecutor Jeannice Appenteng in her closing statement: “Ladies and gentlemen, what R. Kelly wanted was to have sex with young girls.”
Four women testified against the ex-musician in court, all of them using pseudonyms or without their last names being mentioned.
At the center of the process was a video that prosecutors say shows Kelly abusing a 14-year-old girl and urinating on her.
When the jury was shown the abuse video at the trial, black screens were put up in the courtroom to minimize the number of people showing the hurtful images
In this case, the musician had already been acquitted by a jury in 2008. At the time, prosecutors accused him of pressuring the victim not to testify at the trial.
Abused hundreds of times
In the new process, the now adult woman with tears in her eyes then confirmed that she was the person in the video. Kelly was in fact around 30 years old.
She told jurors she was 15 when they first had intercourse. When asked how many times she was abused before she turned 18, she quietly replied, “Countless times. hundreds.”
A classmate of the woman at the time testified that her friend took her to Kelly’s house. There the shock: she saw the musician and her friend naked. Kelly told her that everyone has secrets. “This is our secret,” he said accordingly.
According to the New York Times, the 12 jurors acquitted him on seven of the 13 counts, including allegations of obstruction of justice.
The sentence will be announced at a later date, Kelly faces another several decades of imprisonment.
