quoted. the media podcast: All propaganda? – Media

Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has been going on for almost a year now, and this year has also shown how far Vladimir Putin’s propaganda goes to justify this war and keep the Russian president in power. But not only dictators use manipulative communication strategies.

Even in democratic societies, politically extreme right-wing actors in particular try to poison public debates, divide society and profit from it. Donald Trump, Viktor Orbán, Marine Le Pen and Giorgia Meloni stand for this strategy. Or the AfD in Germany, which repeatedly misuses the topic of immigration to incite people with no immigrant background against migrants and their descendants and to win them over. How do the media deal with these strategies? What can journalism do against such propaganda?

Communication scientist Nadia Zaboura and SZ author Nils Minkmar discuss this in the current episode of “quoted. der medienpodcast”. Guest: Birand Bingül, journalist, former head of ARD communication at WDR, today at the fischerAppelt agency responsible for advising the current ARD chairman Kai Gniffke, among other things. His current book is called “Alles Propaganda”.

“quoted. the media podcast” is a cooperation between the CIVIS Media Foundation for Integration and Cultural Diversity in Europe and the Süddeutsche Zeitung, funded by the Mercator Foundation.
