Quentin Tarantino reveals new details about ‘The Movie Critic’. The film is said to be about a critic who wrote for a porn magazine.

On the fringes of the Cannes Film Festival, master director Quentin Tarantino (60) revealed new details about his probably last feature film “The Movie Critic”. After initial rumors circulated that the 1977 California based work could be about legendary film critic Pauline Kael (1919-2001), the two-time Oscar winner clarified in an interview with “Deadline”.which main character will be the focus of his new film.

“The Movie Critic” is about a porn magazine film critic

According to Tarantino, the main character of “The Movie Critic” was based on “a guy who was really alive but never really famous, and he wrote movie reviews for a porn magazine.” The 60-year-old filmmaker went on to say that he himself loaded porn magazines into a vending machine when he was a teenager. Through this job he came across the said magazine, which had a “really interesting film page”.

Tarantino declined to reveal the title of the publication. However, in “The Movie Critic” the magazine is said to be called “The Popstar Pages”. The critic, who has also remained anonymous up until now, “wrote about mainstream films.” “I think he was a very good critic. He was bloody cynical,” Tarantino explained. The film reviews were “a mixture of early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle could be if he were a film critic”.

Travis Bickle is the lead character played by Robert DeNiro (79) in Martin Scorsese’s (80) classic 1976 New York film Taxi Driver.

The critic in question was also “very, very funny” and “very rude.” “He swore. He used racist language,” Tarantino said.

No Leonardo DiCaprio or Brad Pitt to Star in ‘The Movie Critic’

In addition, the described film critic was in his mid-thirties. Since Tarantino apparently plans to stay true to the age of his inspirational figure, neither of the two celebrated “Once Upon a Time In … Hollywood” actors Leonardo DiCaprio (48) or Brad Pitt (59) will take on the role of the swearing critic . These are too old for the role, as the director admitted.

“I haven’t decided yet, but it will be someone around 35. It will definitely be a new leading man for me,” Tarantino said.

Pre-production for The Movie Critic is slated to begin in Los Angeles next month. Then Tarantino also wants to look at other candidates for the leading role in his last feature film – as he emphasized again in an interview with “Deadline”.
