It is “a true artist’s house,” says the statement from Freddie Mercury’s partner. The posh house in London is set to change hands for a sum worth millions.

Queen singer’s well-known London estate Freddie Mercury is for sale for a sum of millions. His long-term partner Mary Austin, who remained his confidant even after the separation, is offering “Garden Lodge” for more than 30 million pounds (35 million euros), as the brokerage firm Knight Frank announced. For security reasons, neither the floor plan nor any other details would be revealed.

The house is the most beautiful memory for her, there was love and warmth in every room, Austin said, according to the statement. “It has been a joy to live here and I have many wonderful memories here.” It has always been a place of peace, “a true artist’s home, and now it’s time to pass that feeling of peace on to the next person,” Austin said.

After his death in 1991, Mercury left her the property in the upscale Kensington district and all of his possessions. “Over the next 30 years, Mary carefully cared for the house and the collection, preserving it largely as it had been left to her,” Knight Frank continued.

Increase in value by around sixty times

In September 2023, Austin had already auctioned around 1,500 items from the famous singer’s estate. Among them was an entrance door to the private house that had been scrawled by fans. In total, the auction brought in almost £39.5 million. Part of the proceeds should go to charitable foundations.

“Garden Lodge” was designed in 1907 in the neo-Georgian style by the architect Ernest Marshall for the artist couple Cecil Rea and Constance Halford. Mercury bought it in 1980 for £500,000 from a member of the Hoare banking family, the Times newspaper reported.
