Margrethe was studying in London in 1965 when she met the confident Frenchman Henri de Laborde de Monpezat at a dinner party. A year later they met again at a wedding in Scotland and at a subsequent dinner there was a spark between the two. “It happened when we were dancing. There’s nothing you can do about it,” Margrethe remembers in a documentary. The marriage lasted until Henry died in 2018.
