The Queen celebrates 70 years on the throne. In a good mood, Queen Elizabeth II received representatives of local groups before the big anniversary.

Queen Elizabeth II (95) celebrates a special anniversary on February 6th. She ascended the British throne 70 years ago on Sunday. A day earlier, on Saturday, the monarch received representatives of local civic groups and charities as part of the celebrations.

The palace posted a short clip on Instagram the reception at Sandringham House, attended by the Queen, members of the Sandringham Women’s Institute, West Norfolk Befriending and Little Discoverers, among others. According to the palace, pensioners who live on the property were also there – as well as Angela Wood, who is said to have helped design the recipe for “Coronation Chicken”. This is a poultry dish created for the coronation banquet in 1953.

Clearly in a good mood

As the clip shows, a band also serenaded the queen. In addition to some gifts, the Queen also received an anniversary cake to cut. And the monarch, who was obviously in a good mood, also made her guests laugh, as another clip shows, published by the British Daily Mail. “I think I’ll just stick the knife in,” joked the queen. Someone else can do the rest.

Queen Elizabeth II is the first monarch in history to reach the milestone of 70 years on the British throne.
