The Queen is known to enjoy sipping a martini. But the doctors want that to be over soon. Even walking does not always work without aids.

What would life be without cherished habits? What applies to mere mortals also applies to royals: As the British daily “The Independent” reported back in 2012, Queen Elizabeth II should maintain a strict drinking routine. According to this, she consumes exactly four drinks throughout the day: a gin with Dubonnet before lunch and a glass of wine with lunch. In the evening she has a dry martini and a glass of champagne.

In particular, the martini should have been particularly close to her heart. But these pleasures are probably over. As reported by the magazine “Vanity Fair”, citing two sources close to the Queen, doctors are said to have advised the Queen to refrain from alcohol in the future – with the exception of special occasions. The recommendation apparently came with a view to the monarch’s busy schedule and the upcoming celebrations for the platinum anniversary of her accession to the throne, which she will celebrate next June.

“The Queen was advised to forego her evening drink, which is usually a martini,” the paper quoted a friend of the royal family as saying. Although this is not a big problem for the 95-year-old, as she is not a big drinker, the boyfriend sees it as a bit “unfair”, as it deprives the Queen of one of the few joys that she has left in this phase of life .

The Queen is now walking on a stick

The increasing age of the monarch is also noticeable in other ways. It wasn’t until the beginning of the week that photos caused a stir in the UK, showing Elizabeth II with a walking stick while attending the memorial service at Westminster Abbey. Even serious media reported on this detail, after all, it was the first time that the Queen has used a walker at an official event. The Queen was last seen with a stick almost 20 years ago – at that time, however, she was recovering from a knee operation.

Now the walking aid seems to be her constant companion – and in the evening she can no longer even drink the situation nicely. Even as a queen, things are not always easy.
