Dystopias, royal glamor and zombies: The May series has a colorful selection of genres to offer. These are the highlights of the month.

May has begun and with it a lot of new series are starting again on the streaming services. While many “Bridgerton” fans are waiting for the spin-off “Queen Charlotte”, “Fear the Walking Dead” fans are looking forward to the last season of the hit series. Disney+, Netflix and Co. have this and much more to offer in May.

Disney+

The streaming service Disney + has the premiere of the moving, biographical drama series “A Spark of Hope – Anne Frank’s Helper” (original title: “A Small Light”) ready for May 2nd. The US production tells in two parts the story of the Austrian-Dutch resistance fighter Miep Gies (Bel Powley, 31), who hid the Jewish girl Anne Frank (Billie Boulet) from the National Socialists in Amsterdam between 1942 and 1944. In addition to the events surrounding Frank and her father Otto (Liev Schreiber, 55), it is also about the fates of other “hidden people” who sought protection from Gies.

For fans of the “Bridgerton” universe, the long wait is finally over. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will be released in six episodes on May 4th. The prequel spin-off of the streaming hit was again created by “Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes (53). The story focuses on young Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio, 21), her love story and her rise to fame and fortune. The series also plays in two different time levels, so you can see the older Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel, 52) again.

South Korea delivers another exciting dystopia after the success of “Squid Game” on May 12th. “Black Knight” is about a future in which air pollution is so bad that people can only go outside with breathing masks. Rich people rely on delivery services in this world. When the courier 5-8 (Kim Woo-bin, 33) meets the refugee Sa-wol (Kang You-seok, 28), his life changes abruptly.

On the other hand, “Fubar”, which starts on May 25th with eight episodes, is something for the laugh muscles. Arnold Schwarzenegger (75) plays the leading role. His character Luke and his daughter Emma (Monica Barbaro, 32) discover that they both work secretly for the CIA. However, the two now have to work together for a new mission: a lot of action, fun and family drama is guaranteed!

Not only Netflix has a future dystopia up its sleeve: Apple TV+ also delivers a sci-fi series with “Silo” on May 5th that takes place in a threatening new world. The world’s last 10,000 people live deep underground – in so-called silos – to protect themselves from the toxic outside world. After the murder of a loved one, engineer Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson, 39) searches for answers. However, the secret she reveals becomes dangerous.

Rose Byrne, 43, and Seth Rogen, 41, are in a platonic relationship on Apple TV+’s “Platonic.” The comedy series starts on May 24th and tells the story of two former best friends. After an argument, the two slowly get closer again and don’t even notice that their friendship is becoming more and more intense. How the relationship develops is told in a total of ten episodes.

Amazon Prime Video

In the middle of the month (May 15) Amazon Prime Video shows the eighth and final season of “Fear the Walking Dead”. The first offshoot of the cult series “The Walking Dead” is coming to an end after eight years on the air. The trailer promises a big jump in time. Seven years after the events of season seven, Madison, Morgan and company now live under PADRE rule. But of course the group will resist.

At the end of May Prime Video will be “fantastic”. The German fantasy series “Der Greif”, based on the novel of the same name by Wolfgang (69) and Heike Hohlbein (68), starts on May 24th. The story is set in the 90s and is about the three misfits Mark (Jeremias Meyer, 23), Memo (Zoran Pingel, 24) and Becky (Lea Drinda, 22), who fight in another world called “The Black Tower”. have to fight the world-eating griffin.
