Putin: There is not much to suggest that his rule will end well – Opinion

Nobody should think that the sanctions will definitely result in a change of power in the Kremlin. And those who know the country will be careful with the desire for a power struggle or even the collapse of Russia anyway.

The Russian secret service FSB is having a hard time right now. The head of the FSB’s fledgling foreign department, Sergei Beseda, and his deputy have been under house arrest for a few days. They were supposed to prepare and flank the Ukraine campaign, but misinformed Vladimir Putin about Ukrainian enthusiasm for the Russian invaders. The Russians were not received with bread and salt, but with Molotov cocktails and insults. That a potentate in the autumn of his reign is only surrounded by satraps who decorate his illusion of reality is not new. But Vladimir Putin attacking his own secret service? About the caste he came from, which he made great, which was long considered the most powerful institution in the state? An electrifying thought. Then there would still be chances of discord at the top, and then what a growing number of intellectuals from Francis Fukuyama to Masha Gessen see imminent practically every hour would finally seem to be realistic: Putin’s fall.
