Pur lose a longtime band member. Guitarist Martin Ansel has announced his departure.

After almost 30 years, Martin Ansel (57) will leave the band Pur. The guitarist, who has been there since 1993, confirms his departure in a statement. “Dear Pur fans, today I announce my departure from the band”, he opens a post on the band’s official Instagram account.

Fans don’t have to worry about Ansel, though. The reasons for his exit are “multi-layered”, but “private or even health aspects play no role,” he explains. The musician therefore thinks that it is “the very best decision for him, but also for the band” – a “win-win situation”.

“Without you none of this would be possible”

Ansel does not give the exact reasons for the exit. But in the post he thanks the band “thousandfold […] for many successful years”. He also addresses the individual members and the audience again: “Without you none of this would be possible.”

The pop group around singer Hartmut Engler (60) is probably one of the best-known bands in Germany. Several open-air performances are planned for August, including in Heidenheim an der Brenz and Coburg. The seventh edition of “Pur & Friends” is also planned for September 24th. With the event in the Veltins Arena in Schalke, the band would like to celebrate their 40th anniversary on stage at the same time.
