Punch Moto – avant-garde on two wheels

A new and sensational motorcycle comes from Minsk of all places – the capital of Belarus. It’s not that absurd, because there is a factory for motorcycles in Minsk from the Soviet era. The traditional bikes from Minsk are mainly sold to Asia as indestructible workhorses. The Punch Moto comes from the same city, but not from the same factory. An electric motorcycle that is particularly noticeable due to its design. It may remind Banausen of a Lego model, but the ensemble with its strict geometric shapes is based on the aesthetics of Suprematism. A type of Russian futurism brought to life by Kazimir Malevich in the early 20th century. This style also shaped the early days of the Soviet Union, until Stalin suppressed this overly intellectual imagery.

The Punch Moto is not a high-performance bike, it is a speedster for the city and manageable routes. According to the developers of the new electric bike Andrei Ginzburg, former chief designer of the e-mobile project, and Alexander Astapov, the punch bike is ideal for big cities. The concept is based on the French supermotards of the 1980s. The makers see the design as an answer to the needs of Generation Z, who want their own visual language that differs from the style of the past.

The motor delivers a continuous output of 20 HP and reaches a peak of 33 HP. That is a little more than the two-wheelers in the 125 cubic centimeter class. This version then also reaches 120 km / h. In the case of series production, a variant with reduced performance is planned, which can be driven with the A1 motorcycle license. The range should be 110 kilometers in urban areas, which would be more than adequate. The Punch Moto has two batteries that are attached to both sides of the motorcycle and can be removed using a quick-release mechanism.

Ideal model for the electric drive

Two-wheelers in these classes are ideal for electrification. The battery already covers the daily driving distances. However, the energy storage devices are not too heavy to carry around to recharge. And unlike a gasoline engine, the engine is practically maintenance-free. The appearance polarizes, but should appeal to a young, metropolitan audience.

The bike still has neither a retail price nor a website, but it cannot be ruled out that it will actually be built. In the successor states of the USSR it happens again and again that niche vehicles from mini companies come onto the market. “Maxim Russia” writes that sales of the electric motorcycle from Punch Motorcycles are planned for 2022.
