The good news: autumn vegetables can be kept fresh for several months.
But there are a few things to keep in mind.
Pumpkins should be stored in a cool place, but not in the refrigerator, where the vegetables are too cold. A storage temperature of around twelve degrees is ideal.
The storage location should be dry for this purpose.
They quickly start to mold when they get wet, and they should also be kept in the dark.
However, if the skin of the pumpkins is damaged, they are no longer suitable for storage and should be used up immediately.
Pumpkins that have already been cut open can be stored in the fridge for a few days.
Pumpkins also freeze well.
Hokkaido squash can be frozen with the skin on, all other types of squash should be peeled before freezing.
