Despite the public transport warning strike on Friday, February 2nd, S-Bahn trains, regional trains and buses are running in Frankfurt. Subways and trams, on the other hand, are at a standstill.

Frankfurt – The upcoming warning strikes in local public transport are also expected to paralyze the subways and trams in Frankfurt am Main. It is expected that all nine subway lines and ten tram lines will be on strike from the start of operations on Friday, February 2nd.

The failure of the subway in particular will hit many commuters hard. However, S-Bahn, regional trains and the city bus lines in Frankfurt are still in operation and can therefore be used as alternatives. However, it is to be expected that bus traffic will become more noticeable due to significantly increased demand.

Despite the public transport warning strike, the following lines are expected to continue to operate:

  • the S-Bahn lines (S1 to S5, S7 to S9)
  • the regional trains
  • the bus routes (including rail replacement services)

According to the Rhine-Main Transport Association, bus traffic in Offenbach is affected. Strong impacts are also expected on buses in Wiesbaden. The extent is still unclear, said a spokesman for the bus company ESWE Verkehr.

Verdi wants to achieve better working conditions for the approximately 8,000 employees in Hesse. The drivers of subways and trams, some buses and those in administration should receive a special annual payment and work 35 instead of 38 or 40 hours a week with full pay. Verdi also wants to eliminate the bottom three wage groups, so that young professionals would receive a starting salary increased by 200 euros. At the end of the scale, a new experience level is to be introduced for long-term employees.
