The ver.di union has announced strikes in the public sector. The focus should be on the health facilities, said ver.di boss Werneke. The second round of negotiations had previously failed.
Schools, daycare centers, offices: the people in Germany have to prepare for strikes in the public sector. This was announced by the ver.di union after the unsuccessful second round of negotiations for the more than one million collective bargaining employees in the federal states.
“We don’t waste our time for days in order to hear a stoic no from the employers’ side to all the demands of the employees,” said ver.di boss Frank Werneke.
Focus on healthcare facilities
As a sad highlight, no offer had been made. The public service unions are therefore forced to intensify the labor dispute up to the third round of collective bargaining at the end of November in order to increase the pressure on a collective agreement.
“Anyone who provokes strikes shouldn’t be surprised if they get them,” said Werneke. “The collective bargaining association of the German states bears sole responsibility for the consequences of the coming strikes.” The focus of the strike should therefore be in the health facilities of the countries. Hessen is not affected by the strikes.
The time of the strike is still unclear
The chairman of the Beamtenbunds dbb, Ulrich Silberbach, said at the end of the two-day second round: “Those were two lost days and if the finance ministers of the federal states continue like this, they will drive the negotiations completely up against the wall.”
The union did not initially disclose where and when employees would go to work. Before the last state collective agreement two years ago, schools, vocational schools, state clinics, daycare centers and offices were partially paralyzed with warning strikes.
Five percent more wages are required
The unions are demanding an increase in income of five percent for employees in the public service of the federal states, but at least 150 euros over a period of twelve months. Healthcare workers are to receive 300 euros more per month. The training allowances are to be increased by 100 euros.
