In the collective bargaining round for employees in the federal states, the ver.di union called for the first major warning measures today. The focus of the strikes is Hamburg.

As part of the collective bargaining dispute for public sector employees in the federal states, the first major warning strikes are taking place today. The ver.di union has called on state employees in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Berlin to stop work. According to its own information, ver.di is reacting to a lack of an offer from the collective bargaining community of German states during the negotiations in Potsdam.

In Hamburg, warning strikes take place in state companies, schools, district offices, job centers and the fire department. In Schleswig-Holstein, universities, coastal protection and the road construction administration are among those affected. In addition, the employees of the early shift in the Konzerthaus Berlin should stop work. Demonstrations are planned in the morning, especially in Hamburg and Schleswig.

Third round of negotiations in a month

The service union is demanding 10.5 percent more income for public sector employees, but at least 500 euros more per month. Young talent should receive 200 euros more and trainees should be taken on for an unlimited period.

In contrast, the Collective Bargaining Association of German States (TdL) and its negotiator, Hamburg’s Finance Senator Andreas Dressel (SPD), made it clear in the second round of negotiations on Friday that they considered the demands to be far too high and unaffordable.

Collective bargaining for the 1.1 million employees in the federal states except Hesse began at the end of October. A third round of negotiations is scheduled for December 7th and 8th in Potsdam.
