Why is it that the body begins to mature at younger and younger ages, with some girls developing breasts as early as six or seven years old? Some factors are now known that seem to accelerate the path to puberty, but many things still remain a mystery.
Marcia Herman-Giddens provided the first solid evidence that girls are becoming women more quickly than before. She teaches at the University of North Carolina and is considered an expert on puberty development.
