PSG starts 2024 with a trophy by beating Toulouse (2-0), Kylian Mbappé new top scorer in the history of the Park

And twelve for PSG. This Wednesday evening, Paris Saint-Germain won the twelfth Champions Trophy in its history, after its victory against Toulouse (2-0). At the Parc des Princes, Lee Kang-In opened the scoring (3rd), before Kylian Mbappé then made the break (44th). The Parisians are off to a great start to their year 2024, with this first title.

Kylian Mbappé definitely never stops breaking records. The striker became, at just 25 years old, the top scorer in the history of Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes, ahead of Edinson Cavani. His tally now stands at 111 goals, after making the break, with his right foot, from the penalty spot (44th, 2-0). The captain of the France team scored his 22nd goal of the season in 23 matches played in all competitions.

Paris quickly done, well done

Before him, it was Kang-In Lee who stood out. The South Korean, perfectly found with a touch of the ball by Ousmane Dembélé, behind in the penalty area, emerged to finish with a flat left foot and open the scoring (3rd, 1-0). In control, PSG – as usual – put their foot on the ball (65% possession). By dominating, the Parisians had several situations. Before the break goal came just before the break, Mbappé (28th), Bradley Barcola (30th) then Lee, with an acrobatic gesture (35th), came up against Guillaume Restes.

After the debates resumed, the Toulouse goalkeeper was then very happy to see a direct free kick from Achraf Hakimi bounce off his right post, while he was completely beaten (56th). Toulouse has been saved 17 times by its uprights in 2023-24 in all competitions, more than any other team playing in the five major European championships.

Skriniar out, Beraldo in: rare Parisian thrill after rest

Toulouse had a bit of success but could also have hoped for more. While they were still only 1-0 down, the winners of the last Coupe de France almost equalized, but Gianluigi Donnarumma deflected a powerful shot from Thijs Dallinga onto his left post (37th). TFC then waited until the second half to show their best face. But neither Cristian Casseres (63rd, 90th+3), Aron Donnum (64th), Frank Magri (73rd) or even Dallinga (90th+2) managed to deceive the impassable Italian goalkeeper. Carles Martinez Novell’s men may have regrets.

In a second act during which PSG was content to manage, the only false note for the French champions was the exit due to injury of Milan Skriniar (71st), injured in the left ankle and replaced by Lucas Beraldo, who performed his big debut in the Parisian jersey. Title holders, Luis Enrique’s men therefore retain this Champions Trophy, which they have won ten times over the last eleven years. Ideal for preparing for their next outing, in the Coupe de France, on the Revel pitch (Sunday, 8:45 p.m.).
