PSG: Leonardo reveals how the Donnarumma transfer really went

Gianluigi Donnarumma joined PSG on a free transfer from Milan in the summer. The transfer came about at short notice.
Sports director Leonardo from Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain has revealed that Gianluigi Donnarumma (22) was transferred to the French capital relatively spontaneously a few months ago. “We had no contact with Donnarumma before June,” he said on the sidelines of the Festival dello Sport in Trento.
Leonardo emphasized: “Signing him was actually not planned. In June he was still available, so we started the talks and got him. This transfer was not worked on before. “
PSG: Donnarumma’s contract with Milan expired in the summer
Donarumma had let his contract with AC Milan expire and was able to transfer to PSG for free. In theory, the Italian national goalkeeper could have reached an agreement with a new club as early as January 1, 2021.
Allegations that PSG had influenced Donnarumma’s decision not to extend his contract in Milan, Leonardo rejected: “We have nothing to do with the fact that he went free.”
