What is the new PS5 price?

In a post published this morning on the PlayStation-Blogthe President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) Jim Ryan has announced a new price for the PlayStation 5 in different regions of the world. Seven markets are affected, including Europe, which are seeing the price of the PS5 increase. An increase justified by SIE:

We see high rates of inflation as well as unfavorable monetary trends, impacting the consumer and putting pressure on many industries (…) This is why SIE has taken the difficult decision to increase the selling price of the PlayStation 5 in markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Canada.

PS5: the shortage is not forgotten

Such a price increase can make you smile, especially when you know how difficult it is to get the PlayStation 5 since its release at the end of 2020: the Covid-19 crisis had its impact on manufacturers’ suppliers, unable to produce a quantity of consoles in accordance with demand for lack of components. Something that Sony Interactive Entertainment does not seem to have forgotten:

While the price increase is necessary given the current global economic situation and its impact on SIE’s business, our top priority is to continue to improve the distribution of PlayStation 5s to as many gamers as possible so they can experience what the PS5 has to offer and what’s yet to come.

In any event, it is true that the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023 are very promising in terms of content: whether God of War: Ragnarok or the output of the PSVR 2 virtual reality headset.
