In Iran, police officers are said to have fired again at opposition demonstrators. People had taken to the streets in the town of Marivan. A woman was killed during demonstrations there on Saturday.
During protests in Iran, the police are said to have opened fire on demonstrators again. According to eyewitnesses, tear gas was also used. Dozens of protesters were injured, according to the Oslo-based human rights organization Hengaw. Fatalities were also feared.
People had taken to the streets in the city of Marivan in the northwest of the country. They are said to have attacked the office of a member of parliament. The information cannot be independently confirmed.
Response to the death of a protester
A young Kurdish woman is said to have been killed in Marivan on Saturday after taking part in an opposition demonstration. As in the past few weeks, the state media rejected the accusation that the police had used violence against the people. Human rights activists assume that since the demonstrations began seven weeks ago in Iran, more than 300 people have been killed by security forces or paramilitary groups.
In mid-September, protests ignited over the death of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in police custody. She had been arrested by the vice squad for allegedly wearing her headscarf improperly.
