Protests by anti-vaccination campaigners: demos in numerous German cities – politics

6500 participants in Rostock, 4000 in Gera, 3000 in Cottbus: One focus of the protests are again the East German federal states. Fireworks and bottles are thrown at police officers in Bautzen.

In numerous German cities, tens of thousands of people took to the streets against Corona protective measures on Monday. The demonstrations were particularly popular in eastern Germany.

In Freiberg in Saxony several hundred people in various groups took to the streets. In Bautzen, emergency services wanted to stop an elevator. The police wrote on Twitter that they were “massively” pelted with fireworks and bottles. In the Engelsdorf district of Leipzig, an elevator with 250 people was stopped, said a police spokesman. In the Leipzig area and northern Saxony alone, there had been around 30 calls for corona protests.

Also in numerous places in Thuringia was demonstrated again. In Gera alone, around 4,000 people took to the streets in the evening, according to the MDR. In neighboring Altenburg there were 1,300 people. Several hundred people came to demonstrations in other cities.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania According to the police, there were a total of around 15,000 participants in several cities. In Rostock the officials counted about 6500 participants. In Schwerin there were about 2700 and in Neubrandenburg about 2400 people.

Also in Brandenburg Thousands of people demonstrated against corona restrictions. In the south of Brandenburg there were a total of around 9,000 participants at 16 locations, around 3,000 of them in Cottbus. A protest march in the state capital Potsdam counted 300 opponents of corona measures. In Magdeburg, according to the police, around 5000 people moved from Domplatz through the city.

In Halle and in Halberstadt in Saxony-Anhalt Police spokespersons spoke of around 1,500 demonstrators each, in Wittenberg from 1900 and in Bitterfeld from 1,100 demonstrators.

There were also rallies by vaccination opponents and so-called lateral thinkers in other federal states. According to the police, around 1,000 people demonstrated in Saarbrücken and Fulda in Hesse. Several hundred people took to the streets in various places in Lower Saxony. Most of them were in Wolfsburg with around 800 participants. In Rhineland-Palatinate, around 1,500 people met at various locations in Kaiserslautern and marched through the city center. In Koblenz around 1200 people had gathered for a so-called Monday walk, in Mainz there were around 150. In Pirmasens, two participants in a meeting attacked emergency services. One of the two attackers had previously been advised of the obligation to wear a mask. Police said three officers were slightly injured.
