Protest action in university institute: Pro-Palestinian HU occupation will be tolerated until Thursday evening

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators have occupied rooms at Humboldt University since Wednesday afternoon. The university held talks for more than two hours – with the result that the occupation can continue until Thursday evening.

Pro-Palestinian activists have been occupying the Social Sciences Institute of Berlin’s Humboldt University (HU) since Wednesday afternoon. The action will be tolerated until Thursday evening, 6 p.m., as the HU announced on X on Thursday night. HU President Julia von Blumenthal had already informed rbb of this decision late on Wednesday evening.

The police were on site at 4 p.m. when the occupation began. A pro-Palestinian gathering of activists on the street in front of the HU was reassigned to another location by the police on Wednesday evening.

According to police, protesters shouted pro-Palestinian slogans and waved banners on Wednesday afternoon and evening. They are also said to have smeared slogans on the walls.

A group called “Student Coalition Berlin” issued a call for the occupation of the HU. Among other things, it called for a “stop to the genocide in Palestine” and an academic and cultural boycott of Israel. An occupation of rooms at the Free University of Berlin by the same group was recently cleared by the police.
