Brandenburg’s protection of the constitution has tightened the assessment of the AfD youth organization – the Junge Alternative is now considered right-wing extremist in the state. Their positions are clearly not compatible with the Basic Law.

The Brandenburg Office for the Protection of the Constitution has classified the AfD youth organization Junge Alternative (JA) as a secured right-wing extremist effort in the state. This was announced by the head of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Jörg Müller, and Interior Minister Michael Stübgen in Potsdam. The Junge Alternative is already considered a right-wing extremist movement in several federal states.

The positions are clearly not compatible with the Basic Law, said Stübgen. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution has repeatedly found violations of the free democratic basic order. The YES is a “danger to our youth, our democracy, our freedom and our security,” said Stübgen. The AfD youth had been classified as a suspected right-wing extremist in the country since 2019.

The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution announced in April that the Junge Alternative was observed nationwide as a proven right-wing extremist effort. She was previously classified as a suspected right-wing extremist.

The federal authority had temporarily withdrawn the nationwide upgrade according to AfD information from June because of a court case.
