Promotion – Run on e-cars boosts car sales – Economy

The forthcoming cut in government subsidies for e-cars gave car sales a boost in November. In the past month, 260,512 new cars were registered, 31.4 percent more than in the same month last year, the Federal Motor Transport Authority announced on Monday. For the first time, more than 100,000 cars with electric drives went to their first owners, according to the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). “Many customers and dealers want to register as many new electric vehicles as possible before the environmental bonus funding is significantly reduced at the beginning of 2023,” said the Association of International Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (VDIK). Almost four out of ten new passenger cars had a battery drive. Plug-in hybrids were in particularly high demand, and there will be no support at all in January. From January, the state will only subsidize purely electric vehicles with a net list price of up to 40,000 euros with 4,500 euros instead of 6,000 euros. Manufacturers are continuing to reduce the order backlog caused by supply bottlenecks due to the corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
