Promoting Europe: Macron visits Germany – Politics

French President Emmanuel Macron is arriving for a three-day state visit. He is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, but also reminding people how important the EU is – and the European elections on June 9.

For the celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier wanted just one foreign guest: French President Emmanuel Macron. He arrived in Berlin on Sunday; Steinmeier welcomed him at the Democracy Festival and said that Macron’s visit was “proof of the depth of friendship” between the two countries. Macron said that for 75 years it has been said time and again that relations are in crisis, but both countries are pointing the way and are central to Europe. This mutual appreciation is also the focus of Macron’s three-day state visit to Germany.
