Peter Plate has taken on a piece of world literature in order to bring it to the stage as a musical in Berlin. But it won’t be shown until next year.

After the musical “Ku’damm 56”, another project by Rosenstolz musicians Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer is to be staged. They are taking on a story from world literature: According to plans, “Romeo & Juliet – Love is Everything” will premiere next March at Berlin’s Theater des Westens. Both artists wrote many new songs for the musical, based around the song “Love is Everything,” the organizers announced on Thursday.

The musical “Ku’damm 56”, which is based on the ZDF series about a dance school in post-war Berlin, is currently running in the theater near the Zoo train station. The company BMG announced on Thursday that it had signed a two-year lease for the theater until the end of 2024.

The new musical is scheduled to premiere on March 19, 2023. “”Romeo & Juliet” deals with the three existential themes that have accompanied and fascinated us in our songs for 30 years: love, sex, death,” Plate and Sommer were quoted as saying. Plate had already dealt with William Shakespeare’s story in an earlier project.
