Professions for women and men: “I’m there too” – Bavaria

Women are still in the minority in technical jobs and men in social jobs. Stereotypes are to blame for this, explains a sociologist. How do I handle this? Three cliché breakers report on their experiences.

When Tanja Krause is sitting in the lecture hall, she is almost the only woman in the room. In addition to her around 50 fellow students and only four other fellow students. Quite normal in her course, because the 23-year-old is studying mechanical engineering in the fourth semester at the TU Deggendorf. Krause is one of almost 2,000 women who studied mechanical engineering in Bavaria last winter semester. Men, on the other hand, were around 13,000, as the preliminary results of the State Office for Statistics on students at Bavarian universities show.
