Professional mountaineer died in a fatal accident on the Zugspitze – Bavaria

A 28-year-old professional mountaineer fell and died on a climbing tour on the Zugspitze on Monday. As the police inspection in Garmisch-Partenkirchen announced on Wednesday, the Allgäu started at the beginning of the week to climb a ridge in the direction of Gatterl – according to the police, a complicated tour that is rarely committed.

When the man failed to show up for an arranged meeting with a friend, he was reported missing Tuesday morning. The police then searched for the man with a helicopter and discovered him crashed between the Wetterspitzen and the Wetterwandeck. A mountain rescue doctor could only determine death.

According to an initial assessment by the police, the professional mountaineer fell from the ridge at around 150 meters in altitude. How exactly the accident happened is now to be determined under the direction of the Munich II public prosecutor.
