Tesla stops production in Grünheide for two weeks
The Tesla factory in Grünheide has not even been in operation for four months before production is stopped again – but only for a short time. A two-week stop is intended to optimize work processes.
The US company Tesla is temporarily stopping the production of electric cars in its factory in Grünheide (Oder-Spree). According to rbb information, the production stop should begin on July 11 and last up to and including July 22.
During this time, production processes in the car factory are to be optimized and readjusted. The break in operations had been planned for a longer time, it said. Several media had previously reported on the plans.
Most recently, Tesla boss Elon Musk had the new factories in Grünheide and Austin (Texas). called “giant money incinerators”. In an interview with a magazine close to Tesla, he called the past two years an “absolute nightmare” with regard to the supply chain problems in the auto industry.
Software error: recall of around 60,000 vehicles
There are currently several construction sites at the car manufacturer: Tesla has to recall around 60,000 vehicles worldwide. This also affects vehicles from the Model Y series. This model is also manufactured at the Tesla plant in Grünheide.
As the Federal Motor Transport Authority announced on its website, a software error in Model Y and Model 3 vehicles built in 2022 is causing the e-call system to fail [kba-online.de]. In the event of a serious accident, the system automatically alerts the emergency number. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, affected owners should call the manufacturer or go to an authorized workshop. So far, there has been no official statement from Tesla.
Urgent application rejected: Water Association moves to the Higher Administrative Court
In addition, the Strausberg-Erkner water association has announced that it will appeal to the Higher Administrative Court against further Tesla construction projects in Grünheide. The reason for this are changes to the construction plans of the US group for a new press plant in Grünheide. Instead of drilling around 1,200 foundations into the sandy soil as originally planned and requested by Tesla, the automaker wants to replace part of them with 210 piles.
The Strausberg-Erkner water association, on the other hand, complained because this method apparently affected the groundwater. Last week, the administrative court in Frankfurt (Oder) rejected the urgent application from the water association. Due to hydrological studies, the court only sees the groundwater at risk “in the range of several millimeters or a few centimeters”. [verwaltungsgerichtsbarkeit.brandenburg].
Extension of the state road south of Tesla starts
The expansion of the state road (L38) south of the Tesla factory in Grünheide will start on Monday evening. This was announced by the State Office for Roads in Brandenburg. This is the section from the A10 exit Freienbrink to the bridge over the freight train tracks. The current two-lane road will be widened to four lanes. The crossings with exits to the Freight Village (GVZ) Freienbrink are also to be expanded.
The expansion is organized by Tesla itself. The US group is coordinating this with the state office for roads. The lane in the connection area L 38/A 10 is to be widened at night for about two weeks. Work is done daily from Monday to Friday between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Traffic will be regulated with a traffic light during this time. A drainage basin is also to be built afterwards.
The construction work is expected to take around a year in total.
