Ex-Federal Transport Minister Krause in court for fraud
Former Federal Transport Minister Günther Krause is due to appear in court in Rostock on Monday. He is accused of hiding income. His lawyer hopes for the end of a negative series.
In addition, the public prosecutor’s office accuses him of having deceived the lender about his solvency and willingness to pay when agreeing a loan of 10,000 euros. The court has scheduled 15 days of hearings until December.
Krause’s lawyer is optimistic
Krause’s lawyer, Peter-Michael Diestel, told the German Press Agency that he was in good spirits that the procedure would bring clarification and end a somewhat longer negative series in the life of the former Federal Minister of Transport. He declined to comment further on the allegations. “I don’t want to anticipate that.” He is in good contact with the court and the public prosecutor’s office. The presumption of innocence applies to Krause until the final conclusion of the proceedings.
Krause, who is now 69, was Federal Minister of Transport from 1991 to 1993. The CDU politician resigned after several affairs. As chief negotiator of the GDR, he signed the standard contract in 1990 together with the then Federal Minister of the Interior, Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU). After his resignation, Krause had largely withdrawn from politics and worked as an entrepreneur. In this context, he has already had to answer several times before the courts. Later, Krause also participated in the RTL show “I’m a star – get me out of here” as a jungle camp participant.
