Privacy – penalty against meta corporation – economy

The Irish regulatory authority has imposed a fine of 390 million euros on the Facebook group Meta for data protection violations. The fine is the consequence of a decision by EU data protection officials in December that bans online advertising based on personal data unless users explicitly consent. In 2018, Meta changed its terms and conditions so that users, such as Facebook or Instagram, automatically consent to the use of personal data for targeted advertising. Meta announced an objection.
