Prisoner of a fishing net, a humpback whale saved by rescue

This is a story with a happy ending! This Tuesday, June 27, a humpback whale was saved by the rescue operation off Quiberon (Morbihan). It was boaters who saw the animal in difficulty. “She was caught in a fishing net with a ballast that prevented her from getting out. She had trouble swimming, ”explains a fire officer from Morbihan.

Alerted by the Pelagis observatory around 11 a.m., the gendarmes and firefighters dispatched their maritime teams to gently approach the animal, which was regularly coming to the surface. An agent from the French Office for Biodiversity was also present to supervise the operation, which took place about a kilometer from the coast of Port-Haliguen, in the bay of Quiberon.

The animal was freed around 3:15 p.m. when the end that prevented it from freeing itself from the net was cut. The animal, about ten meters long, was able to resume its journey and move away from the coast.
