Two and a half years in prison – that’s the verdict against Germany’s former tennis star Boris Becker. At least for Toni Kroos, that doesn’t change his status as an “absolute hero”.

For former football world champion Toni Kroos, tennis legend Boris Becker remains “an absolute hero” despite his prison sentence for insolvency offenses.

He didn’t believe that Becker was sentenced to prison by a London court, or “I didn’t want to believe it. In my eyes, he is and will remain an absolute hero in Germany. There’s nothing wrong with that,” said Kroos (32) in the joint podcast “Simply luppen” with his brother Felix.

Kroos: Who did everything right?

He met Becker (54) as a “totally pleasant, fine” person. “But you also have to say that Boris Becker hasn’t done everything right in his life, but who has,” said the midfield star of the Spanish champions Real Madrid. Maybe Becker did “a little more wrong” than others or was “too naive here and there”. But he is looking forward to meeting Becker “in good condition afterwards,” said Toni Kroos.

The three-time Wimbledon champion Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in prison on April 29 by a London court for bankruptcy offences.
