Prison closed for the attackers of an RN deputy

The four attackers of Yohann Gillet, who has meanwhile become a member of the National Rally for the first district of Gard, were sentenced to terms ranging from six months in prison to one year in prison for two of them, who benefit from a penalty adjustment in the form of an electronic bracelet.

The facts took place on October 26, 2019, while the municipal and regional councilor was having lunch with friends on the terrace of a restaurant, opposite the square house, in Nîmes. They had been taken to task by a man, quickly joined by three others, all aged in their twenties.

The group treated as “fachos”

They would have treated one of the members of the group of “facho”. The four defendants, on the other hand, denied having recognized the one who would become a deputy some time later. The insults were followed by beatings, in particular against the elected official whom the images from the city’s CCTV cameras show being beaten to the ground.

Yohann Gillet, who “welcomes the pronunciation of the convictions”, explains that he is preparing a bill aimed at “the impossibility of adjusting the prison sentences when the conviction results from physical violence (…) Violent attacks are the daily many French people and it is necessary to work for a truly dissuasive justice”, he explains.
